Tracer experiments in the Freiburg-Schauinsland area — Comparison with flow and dispersion models
Abstract
Two chains of flow and dispersion models were compared with data of a tracer experiment which took place near the Schauinsland mountain in order to test their applicability for instationary situations in orographically structured terrain. A diagnostic model was initialized with observational wind data and coupled with a Gaussian puff model. Secondly a prognostic model was driven by numerical weather prediction (NWP) data via multiple passive nesting and linked with a Lagrangean dispersion model. Although both model chains were able to simulate the basic feature of the dispersion situation the prognostic one altogether led to better results.
