Romance and Germanic Linguistics in Russia at the Turn of the Millennium
Abstract
The article considers the state of things in the sphere of studying of the Romance and Germanic languages in Russian linguistics, enumerating the most significant works on them published in the recent years. The author is critical of the general tendencies of the development of the aforementioned spheres of linguistics, namely, the decreasing significance of comparative linguistics, an increased attention to cognitive linguistics as well as the study of speech phenomena. The author pays special attention to the problems underlying the teaching of young researchers, and the publication of up-to-date educational literature.
