Kemppainen et al. develop an infrared goniometric high-speed deep-pseudopupil microscope (GHS-DPP), which can be used to capture microsaccades in insect compound eyes. Using visible light activation, microsaccades of rhabdomeres inside the Drosophila (open rhabdom) and honeybee (closed rhabdom) compound eyes were observed and rhabdomere orientations were mapped for wild-type Drosophila.
