Défense et illustration de l’argumentation des valeurs : réflexions à partir des travaux de Jean-Claude Guerrini

Abstract

This “critical reflection” examines the way in which Jean-Claude Guerrini's two books (2019 and 2022) Values in Argument: The Legacy of Chaïm Perelman and Value Conflicts and Bullfighting: An Argumentative Study of Controversy deal with the argumentation of values and how to put it into words. It emphasizes the importance of a research work that offers multiple data and illustrations to analyze the axiological dimension of discursive and argumentative practices. At the same time, the author confronts Guerrini's approach with her own ethics of values to show how two theories can apprehend differently a still too neglected subject whose centrality they both underline: the role of values in argumentation.
