Glorias españolas y crónica de España: la Historia de España vindicada de Pedro de Peralta Barnuevo
Abstract
In 1730, Pedro de Peralta Barnuevo’s Historia de España vindicada was published in Lima and volume IV of Benito Jerónimo Feijoo’s Teatro crítico universal, which contained the two parts of the discourse entitled «Glorias de España», was published in Madrid. Both authors showed that they shared a similar mentality, as well as similar historiographical and political ideas. However, the generic difference between the two works was related to the aims pursued in them and their expressive style. This article studies the similar characteristics, typical of the early Enlightenment, and the particular characteristics of Peralta’s Historia in which the remote past of Spain, which was the substance of the content of the first volume, was narrated as the Indies were in Indian historiography.
