Le “ancore d’argento” dei mercanti fenici (Diod. V 35, 4): espediente di carico e precauzione daziaria

Abstract

In questa nota si evidenzia la veridicità del racconto dello Ps. Aristotele e di Diodoro Siculo in relazione all’impiego delle ancore di legno con ceppo di piombo all’epoca delle navigazioni fenicie in Occidente. Si prospetta l’ipotesi che la sostituzione del piombo con l’argento da parte dei mercanti fenici avesse anche la finalità di escludere un poco di argento dal pagamento daziario. The aim of this essay is show the truth of the tale quoted from Ps. Aristotle and Diodorus of Sicily on the silver anchors of the phoenician mercantmen in their maritime commerce in Western Mediterranean. Is formulated the hypothesis they would cut the lead out of the anchors and have silver perform the service of the lead also to be free from the payment of customs duties in the harbours.
