Incidence and pathology of liver abscesses in beef cattle
Abstract
In this study, 1577 beef cattle were examinad to determine the incidence of liver abscesses and the relation of stomach lesions to abscess of the liver. The following results were obtained; 1- Among 1577 beef cattle examined from February 1990 to March 1991, 30 (1.9%) had liver abbcesses. Of these, rumenitis-liver abscess com/ex in the 21 (1.3%) cases were shown. 2- In the stomach of 30 beef cattla with liver abscesses, rumenitis in the 12(40%), hyperkeratosis of the rumen in the 4 (13.3%) and traumatic reticulitis in the 9 (30%) cattle were seen. But any lesions were not observed in other 5 (16.7%) cases. 3- Bacteriological examinations were not conducted. However, the histological appearences of liver absceeses were similar to those developed due to F. necrophorum.
