Digital humanities in tourism history in the German-speaking context – quantité négligeable?
Abstract
Browsing the research landscape on the history of tourism and related disciplines in the German-speaking area, the article articulates the impression of a certain delay in the application and methodological debate concerning the application of digital tools and digitisation in the field. The article comments on recent initiatives and publications and presents for discussion an ongoing research project that explores parliamentary records as historical sources of tourism history. On the basis of this evidence, the potentials, limitations, and problems of current development become apparent. The digital humanities in the history of tourism require both an ambitious exploration and testing of digital technologies in our field, but also a critical reflection on the challenges.
