L’écriture cinématographique de la sociologie filmique. Comment penser en sociologue avec une caméra ?
Abstract
Late in the XIXth century, the brothers Auguste and Louis Lumière invented a new way of representing and organising reality to create a vision of the world. This new language or mode of expression - cinematography – was comprised of tools (cameras, microphones) that no longer constructed discourse through the written word but by images (and sounds) conveyed by photo- or cinematographic writing. Two lessons had to be learnt before the new vehicle could be adopted, however. Firstly, participants needed to know about their tools’ functions and how these might be wielded. After all, the only people who can film or take pictures are photographers or cinematographers. Secondly, they had to develop the aesthetic – and, synonymously, semantic – capacity to construct discourse through photo and cinematographic expression. The present article introduces the basic issues associated with these two learning processes.
