Brazilian racial democracy: not a funny joke

The debate surrounding the Brazilian racism are promoted for decades by two opposing interpretations. One tries to prove that there is prejudice in Brazil and that it affects race relations in the lives of blacks and whites. The other interpretation values the fact that the Brazilian people live in a racial democracy that does not discriminate and provides equal opportunities to all. This article intends to participate in this debate analyzing Brazilian manifestations of racism, including messages contained in “innocent” racist jokes
