The current interest for local products has promoted the development of tourism on their production areas. Gastronomy festivals organised to celebrate agricultural and food local products are very important for the tourist development of ordinary places. Festive events around local food products, where locals and tourists can discover a territory through its culture and its gastronomy, can be a vehicle for territorial identity and local development. The examples of pork (in all its forms) and truffle can be analysed to show how food products (ordinary or luxurious), are used to develop tourism in ordinary places.
