Access to Land and Tenancy Agreements: The Comparative Perspective between Brazil and Colombia
Abstract
This article investigates the formation of tenancies contracts in Brazil and Colombia. Using the data of the Census of Agriculture (IBGE, 1995, 2006; Censos/Encuestas Agropecuários colombianos, 1988, 2004), in the light of economic and sociological interpretation of the law, it researches information related to options for lease. The goal is to discuss how legal and economic constraints are insufficient to understand the formation of tenancies in the context of family farming in Brazil and Colombia, as well as the importance of values intrinsic to the way of living and acting (“habitus”) of this social category.
