Les coupes dans le Tiran le Blanc de 1737, la « belle infidèle » de Caylus : appropriation d’un texte au moment de sa traduction
Abstract
This article aims to present and study the cuts and reductions made by the Count of Caylus (1692-1765) in his translation-adaptation into French (1737) of the novel Tirant lo Blanch (1490). The study of the constant features allows us, latter, to highlight a possible methodology in this intervention, and to formulate some hypotheses on what Caylus reveals about himself in his text; a «beautiful infidel» of the work of the Valencian Joanot Martorell (1413-1468) — which had reached him through translations — and which one it would not be excessive to qualify as an «author's version».
