Abstract
This essay addresses the power, violence, and politics topic in the field of public safety, taking as conductors cables some everyday scenes of an average city of Santa Catarina and the historical background of public security policies to understand the reason behind the current policies, our daily relations with these policies and their effects on our lives. We had analyzed that our fears and insecurities related to the contemporary world, the current violent practices and their spectacularization, provoke and strengthen the suspicion of strangers, embodied in the poor, blacks and outlaw, representatives of danger, opening it to policialization demands of public safety. The politics of public safety, since its genesis, are a militarist perspective, using violence as a strategy control. Even with government efforts in the last decade to introduce contents of human rights in technical training, the field still maintains the traditional logic of use of institutional violence.
