Abstract

Evaluation of the catch crops efficiency in November. The walloon Action Programme (Belgium) called “Sustainable Use of Nitrogen’s Programme”, plans the ploughing in of the catch crops from the 1st December. However it would be preferable for agronomic reasons (to make the ploughing easier, to avoid grains production) to plough in the catch crops from 15th November. Five years (from 2002 to 2006) measurements of soil nitrate residue have nevertheless underlined the interest of maintaining this cover up to 1st December; some 10 kg N-NO3 -.ha-1 were consummed by the catch crop during the end of November.
