This article seeks to map out a contemporary research programme for Picard. There is certainly more research to be done on the geolinguistic, phonological and morphosyntactic aspects of the diasystem. However, any contemporary corpus of Picard is conditioned by two determining factors. 1- The population of speakers: in order to better understand actual practices, it is essential to look well beyond the inevitable quantitative question and define the population’s relationship to voluntarism and spectacularisation and thus to linguistic ideologies. 2- The linguistic characterisation of these practices: it is still difficult to take into account the continuist variation in Picard, which is perhaps similar to a post-Creole continuum. A research programme integrating these problematics will focus on the very notion of language.
