fter outlining the notion of fiction in Borges from the joy that the latter reads in Don Quixote, we seek to show how Foucault's work does not present a joyful reading of Cervantes' novel. He sees in it the tragic testimony of a madness that isolates itself, the laughter of reason in the face of madness that confuses words and things. In contrast, the Lacanian reading of the baroque shows the lack in the midst of representation, and thus the option of reading, in Don Quixote, a certain critique of reason in reason. We end by showing that chance through the plays of the signifier in the transformation of Mambrino’s helmet into the baciyelmo.
