Phonetic choices realized ​​by a person in a speech community are usually labeled in a positive or negative way, demonstrated by linguistic attitudes. Based on the methodology of Sociolinguistics Variationist, this article aims to assess the beliefs and attitudes of teachers and students from “Universidade Estadual do Norte do Paraná”, campus Jacarezinho regarding the use of rhotics in coda. Were interviewed four informants from Jacarezinho-PR, two teachers and two students. Afterwards, the record was done, the description and analysis of the variants of / r / in coda. Then, we analyze the answers given by the informants from specific questions about language beliefs. Finally, we note that the majority of the interviewed are faithful to their origins and does not disguise the produced variant, however, they are still filled with prejudices and beliefs about a “better” or “worse” speech.
