Patriotic values as the basis for moral education of students

Abstract

Background. In the context of the spread of modern value orientations aimed at progress, the spread of innovations, it is important not to forget about spiritual and moral values. One of these values is patriotism. Patriotism, as person’s spiritual and moral value, will always be reflected in actions. Depending on the value orientations, purposes will be set and the means of achieving them will be determined. In this regard, the formation of the patriotic consciousness of the younger generation is of particular importance. Materials and methods. Institutional and structural-functional approaches were used as the main ap-proaches in writing the article, which made it possible to comprehensively analyze the im-portance of patriotism in the value structure of student youth in the Penza region. A socio-logical study was carried out, which included a sociological survey using the questionnaire method (n = 360) and a focus group (n = 12). The object of the research is the students of universities and technical schools of the Penza region. Results. Based on the study’s data, the value structure of student youth in the Penza region was analyzed. The significance and role of patriotism among students is determined. The research presents the results of a sur-vey among students on the formation of patriotic education of the younger generation. Conclusions. The study showed that patriotism is not a significant value for today’s youth and is not considered as a way to consolidate Russian society. In addition, the analysis of patriotic feelings among student youth of the Penza region showed that young people can-not clearly define what is “patriotism” for them. The analysis of the results of the research allows us to conclude that students are imbued with the spirit of patriotism only in certain situations. Most of the students note the importance of patriotic work among young people. Patriotic education is a continuous process, therefore, it is especially important to combine the efforts of various institutions in the patriotic education of the younger generation.
