Investigation of journals as an object of source search is an important factor in realization of the scientific research, while this information resource largely reflects the development of pedagogical thought, its features, problems, etc. Educational periodicals can be seen as a foundational indicator of scientific research, while they ensure continuity of information about current events. In addition, the scientific analysis of periodicals becomes important due to the highlighting of its complex and operative information of a diverse nature, making the periodicals a valuable source of historical and pedagogical research. The purpose of the article is to present periodicals of 1917–1945 as part of the information resource of the V. O. Sukhomlynskyi state scientific and pedagogical library of Ukraine, serving as the primary sources of historical and pedagogical research. By the 20th anniversary of the founding of the V. O. Sukhomlynskyi state scientific and pedagogical library of Ukraine, specialists of the library are preparing to publish the catalog «Periodicals of 1917–1945 in the fund of the V. O. Sukhomlynskyi state scientific and pedagogical library of Ukraine». The catalog contains 11 titles of «leading» nationwide journals, which pages substantiate the theoretical and methodological foundations of the new educational policy, establishes a close relationship with local teaching and provides assistance to educators in implementing new curricula and programs, and the methodological provision of the educational process. The article presents an overview of the publications in the magazines of that time, which contributed to the formation of ideological and axiological guidance among contemporary pedagogical practitioners. The publications of the periodicals contain information on important problems of the educational process in the school, which were characteristic of the chronological period under investigation, and the ways of their solution. Thus, there was a multifaceted professional communication of teachers through journals’ articles, an exchange of experience between active teachers with a creative approach to their professional activities.
