NATIONAL-CULTURAL PECULIARITIES OF COLOR CONCEPTUALIZATION
Abstract
In this article the problem of nomination correlation of color in different languages is considered. Particular attention is given to intercultural distinctions in color symbolism, which, according to the researcher, are determined by various socio-cultural practices of various ethnic groups. The author analyzes the actual information, associations, figurative representations, assessments associated in the mind of native speakers with outlined segments of color continuum. The article presents international as well as culturally important and ethnically determined formations of color concepts in the Russian, Kazakh, English, Japanese and other ethnic cultures. According to the author, without taking into account the semantics of color nominations a variety of cultural phenomena appears difficult to understand, as different living conditions and national peculiarities of segmentation of color space result in the fact that conditionally matching colors in different cultures represent diverging phenomena. It is important to bear in mind that symbolism of the primary colors can be based on the archetype, and in this case the relation to a similar content encoded by color will be specific for the nationality in question.
