Abstract: The persistent prevalence and exacerbation of the plagiarism issue in Algerian higher education raise significant concerns among researchers. Recently, the need for effective strategies to address student plagiarism has become more imperative. This paper elucidates various approaches to deter learners from engaging in plagiarism. The study hypothesizes that incorporating online assignments that foster critical thinking and encourage the expression of personal opinions can mitigate the occurrence of plagiarism. Qualitative empirical data were gathered from 50 Master One students at Barika University Center. The primary findings of this study indicate that the nature of questions posed by instructors plays a pivotal role in either enabling or preventing learners from resorting to plagiarism. Thus, the integration of questions that promote critical thinking and invite personal reflections serves to reduce instances of plagiarism.
