In the context of Oriente University the vocabulary teaching in SFL lessons is characterized by an incidental treatment according to spontaneous needs expressed by the students, brought about by a reading or a specific topic. It lacks planning activities that encourage self-learning by the student, thus interfering with the development of lexical competence as feasible route for insertion into the socio-linguistic means chosen to study a foreign language. On this basis, the purpose of this article is to show the peculiarities of the process of teaching and learning vocabulary SFL lessons in situations of cultural immersion, by means of lexical units that facilitate the development of lexical competence, for that purpose strategies of learning are suggested with tasks that allow the student to be self-manager of his learning.
