The purpose of this article is to examine the different modalities of iconicity put into practice by Francis Ponge in order to make his verbal expressions reflect the objects they designate. Thus, we analyze to what extent the linguistic sign could act as an icon or it would rather constitute an instance of the semantic virtualities brought forth by the poetic language, given that –as far as Ponge is concerned– the transparency conferred to words is, in essence, part of the rhetoric itself of his poetic creation.
