Folk writers were the dominant figures in Hungarian literature in the 1930s. Based on their own experiences and the available data, they portrayed the misery and inhuman living conditions of the poor peasantry in a realistic way. As a result, many popular writers were prosecuted and fined or imprisoned in the 1930s. In this study, I will discuss the characteristics of these trials, the legal background, the cases of the time, and how they were reported in the press.
