PERIPHERAL OSSIFYING FIBROMA (IN SPANISH)

Abstract

Introduction: Peripheral ossifying fibroma is a focal growth tumor which is usually located in the gum and is frequently recurrent. Clinically, it could be confused with peripheral giant cell granuloma, giant cell fibroma, simple fibroma and telangiecticum granuloma, consequently a histological diagnosis is always necessary. Clinical case: A 49 years old female patient, who consulted for recurrence injury in oral cavity; who presented esthetic and functional dissatisfaction because of the tumor, which was located in the maxillary left premolar region, and with two years of evolution. The injury was surgically removed. The diagnosis of peripheral ossifying fibroma was confirmed by histopathological study. Conclusion: Surgical procedure must include a complete surgical excision of the tumor in order to reduce the risk of relapse.
