Reflections on the translation process of students of French as Foreign Language

Abstract

Using Introspection as an instrument, I examine some problems found by two undergraduate students while they were translating a newspaper article from french into portuguese. I establish a correlation between the strategies aimed at solving these problems and the components of the communicative competence. I also point out those correlations which led to a most efficient translation.
