This article proposes considering the influence of the intellectual figure, public personality and work of José Enrique Rodó in the intellectual microclimate of the Escuela Nacional Preparatoria, during the first decade of the 20th century. This influence was operating thanks to the initiative of Porfirio Parra, director of this educational institution. The terms of admiration which Parra professed for Rodó, and the echoes of the Uruguayan essayist in the discourses of the Mexican educator, are an indication of the assimilation of the Humanities in the conceptual and symbolic universes of the Porfiriato university education. The importance that the educational world has in the formation of the 20th century literary institution makes it necessary to consider this early influence of Arielism in university minorities during the first years of the century, a community which would be the basis of the intellectual and literary circle organized around figures like Alfonso Reyes and Pedro Henríquez Ureña.
