Pinus strobus: past and future in Europe. A page of silvicultural history and international scientific cooperation

The author presents a short overview concerning eastern white pine (Pinus strobus L.) introduction in different European countries, including the period of early extension in forest culture until the first blister rust crisis occurred. The species rehabilitation at the European level and the new extension between 1927 and 1972 years period in different countries, particularly in Romania, was presented. Most of the data incorporated here were taken over from the monograph of the senior author's of this paper. However, parts of the newly acquired results in our country were taken in to account, as well. Finally, the fruitful international scientific cooperation, in favor of P. strobus, including that with I.U.F.R.O was highlighted
