Περικειμενικές παρεμβάσεις στα διηγήματα του Αλέξανδρου Παπαδιαμάντη προσαρμοσμένα στη Νεοελληνική για παιδιά και νέους από τον εκδοτικό οίκο «Άγκυρα»

Abstract

Classic literary works in the Western World have been intralingually translated and retranslated in order to meet the needs of an ever-changing society. In Greece we find numerous adaptations of 19th century works addressed to underage readers, an example being the works of Alexandros Papadiamantis, These works present valuable psychographic and an ethnographic depictions of the simple man of that time. The object of the research is the comparative study of Papadiamantis' short stories and their translation into Modern Greek for children, as found in the books by the publishing house "Agyra" and attributed by different translators. The study of synchronic and diachronic retranslations allows us to draw conclusions about the translational customs of each era. Great attention was paid to iconographic representations and paratextual data of the books, as they make up for a large part of the narration and reveal important information regarding the translation techniques. An additional goal of this research is discussing whether or not intralingual translation of Papadiamantis' short stories is legitimate. Until today theories of interlingual translation were being used to map the unexplored field of intralingual translation. To that end, the study draws methodological tools from the field of interlingual translation and, more specifically, the theory of "Descriptive Translation Studies".
