This report describes the methodology used by a new course called “Violence and Health” offered by the Nursing Department of Brasília University. The course´s objective is to discuss, apply, and disseminate knowledge based information and new concepts regarding the relationship between violence, health, and development. The report presents a conceptual framework used in classroom regarding violence, some innovative teaching methods, the integration among teaching, health care facilities, and health promotion networks to provide the support for health care interventions. In addition, the course´s framework adopts the principles of a governmental program called Pro-Saúde. In conclusion, the paper synthesizes the experience of a theoretical and practical issue that is scantily discussed in the health care arena. It challenges the managers to monitor and evaluate public policies related to complex situations, which requires health professionals being capable of acting in complex situations that jeopardize the human rights of society.
