Progress in diagnosis and treatment of high-altitude acute respiratory distress syndrome
Abstract
Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) is a common but critical respiratory condition with high morbidity and mortality rates. Despite its many similarities with ARDS seen in plain regions, ARDS that occurs in high-altitude regions has specific features. In this review, we describe the causes, diagnostic criteria, pathophysiological characteristics, and treatment strategies of high-altitude ARDS, and summarize the key elements in successful rescue of the patients.
