The paper considers the narrative techniques in the novels Laž (written in 1905) by Rudolf Kolarić Kišur, Karikature (written in 1908) by Mijo Radošević and Isušena kaljuža (written between 1906 and 1909, published in 1957) by Janko Polić Kamov. Dealing with the corpus of narrative texts in the period of Croatian literary modernism, literary criticism has emphasised the modernity of these texts which is primarily evident in the layers of subject and theme. More often than not other innovative procedures in the area of literary conventions and strategies on which the work rests have been disregarded, such as procedures which question the relation between literature (language) and fact (reality), followed by the question of the text's referentiality and the ability of literature to tell/show.
