This article questions symbolic struggles woven around the re-semantizations of poverty, focusing on hierarchical classifications of "local poor" made by locals of stigmatized territories of the Greater Bom Jardim, inscribed on the margins of Fortaleza-CE. I highlight in this critical interpretation, the native category of "the poor" and "the poorest of the poor" used in their classification struggles and micro tactics of social distinction, demarcations of symbolic boundaries between (un)equal near-distant in their lived territories. The allocation of these positions between residents-designations touches the material and immaterial symbols of distinction and / or reproduction of stigmatization processes and socio spatial segregation. It consists of trimming my doctoral thesis on poverty and place (s) in the urban margins, focusing on the symbolic struggles woven territorially. I opted for qualitative research, with the adoption of theoretical and methodological tools of cultural anthropology, combining participant observation with ethnographic interviews, daily use of field and photographic records.
