Hexagonal Architecture of Slobodan Vukajlović: An Example of the City Chapel in Nikšić City, Montenegro
Abstract
The opus of the architect Slobodan Vukajlović (1934-2006) is one of the most important for former Yugoslavia and Montenegrin history of architecture. One of the important design features of Vukajlović’s buildings is the reference to hexagon and its transformation and multiplication. In this context, it is very interesting the city chapel project in Nikšić, on which Vukajlović began to work at the end of 1968 and ended it in 1969. Due to the multiplication of hexagons, with elements such as the gate as a powerful symbol, with the rhythm of the mass as well as the relationship between light and the shadow on the façade, the city chapel in Nikšić is the unique example of architectural reflection.
