French immigrants in Brazil live mostly in the large Sudeste metropolises. However, some have chosen to immigrate to Salvador (State of Bahia). Salvador is a city with a strong Afro-Brazilian influence and has the largest self-identified black population in the country. As other Brazilian metropolises, the Bahian capital also presents a segregated urbanization. In this context, it is relevant to question the situation of the French in the urban geographical space and in the socio-economic space. The anthropological study of their places of residence and the uses they make of urban resources reveal their social position and the heterogeneous perceptions they have on it, considering post-colonial issues and their European origin.
