  • Juan Antonio Simón es licenciado en historia por la Universidad Compluten se de Madrid. Doctor en Humanidades por la Universidad Carlos III de Madrid. Desde el 2006 ha trabajado en el Departamento de Humanidades de la Universidad Carlo s III de Madrid, en el Centro de Estudios Olímpicos de la Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona (CEO-UAB) y en la actualidad es profesor de historia del deporte en la Universidad Europea de Madrid (UEM).

The 1929 Barcelona International Exposition became the driving force in the modernization of the city and at the same time, a propaganda tool for diffusion of a new image of progress and modernity. This paper deals the study of the transformation of Montjuïc Mountain, the site where the Exposition was located, as a new public space of leisure, entertainment and sport. Closely related to the previous point, sport became one of the three areas in which the event took place. This paper analyses the role of sport in the Exposition as a vehicle for improve the construction of new sports facilities and the spread of this practice between Catalans and Spanish working class.
