Abstract

Objective: report a case of a patient with femoral deficiency, a rare congenital pathology that brings important repercussions on the quality of life of the affected people. Case description: Y.C.S.S. female, six months old, presenting phenotypic changes that lead to the diagnostic hypothesis of lower limb discrepancy. The radiological study confirmed the diagnostic suspicion of congenital femoral deficiency in a pediatric patient. Discussion:Congenital femoral deficiency (CFD) is a bone dysplasia of the femur, with discrepancy in the length of the lower limbs. Although the etiology is unknown, some theories have been suggested, like drug abuse, viral infection and traumas within pregnancy. There were also familiar case reports of the pathology. One of the treatments offered to CFD is the bone stretching, in which the techniques more applied are corticotomy and external fixator placement with progressive stretching. Comments:The prognosis of the infant is variable, favored by less severe classification of the disease and adequate support in early months of life.
