Abstract
This essay-review exposes Ubiratan D'Ambrosio's ideas about the evolution of knowledge and perspectives on the academic landscape of the 21st century, pertaining to the second--revised and expanded--edition of Education for a Society in Transition, a book that traces and invokes reflections on various topics related to the education of today’s dominant civilization, problematizing them in the context of a possible transition to a new planetary civilization.
