Exploring medical student’s outlook on use of artificial intelligence in medical education: a multicentric cross-sectional study in Jharkhand, India
Abstract
Background Artificial Intelligence (AI) has immense potential varying from diagnosing, decision-making in-patient care, and education. To successfully integrate AI into medicine and medical education, it is important to know the outlook and willingness of medical students. This study was done to learn about the medical students opinions about it being a part of the medical curriculum.Methodology: A cross-sectional study was conducted by using Google Forms to gather data from undergraduate (UG) students studying in various medical colleges in Jharkhand. Descriptive statistics analysis was done for quantitative data, while thematic analysis was done for qualitative data.Results A total of 417 study participants were involved in this study. In our study, we found that 65.23% had used AI and 93.6% were aware of its existence in medical science. 44% were comfortable using AI, but 49.6% were not aware of its use in healthcare and medical education. Most participants believed AI could enhance medical education but had trust issues about data confidentiality.Conclusion Our study finding suggests that UG students believe that AI has potential and will be useful if implemented in medical education. UG students should be sensitised to the use of AI tools and their applications.
