Since the 90s, Jeanne Favret-Saada have studied many cases of blasphemy in Europe, especially in France: movies (by Jacques Rivette, by Martin Scorsese), cartoons of Muhammad, and novel (by Salman Rushdie). Instead of focusing on the blasphemous speech itself, she have shed light on the accusations of blasphemy and on the controversies that those latter have raised. I argue that theses blasphemy cases refute the theory of the hegemony of postmodern culture that scholars such as Frederic Jameson hypothesize.
