The article reveals the national identity of Russian sociology, and identifies the main factors of this identity. The specifics of Russian sociology are determined by the author in three appraisal and analytical dimensions: historical roots; substantial and institutional development; modern condition and the resource for further development. It is noted that the pluralism established in modern Russian sociology is related to the rethinking of dominant world theoretical directions. It is concluded that there is a need to scientifically and critically comprehend the possibility of applying the knowledge accumulated by Western sociological schools, and certainly in the context of building respect for own national traditions of social thinking.
