With the continuous improvement of energy sector marketization in China, carbon market and electricity market have become critical policy instruments for controlling carbon emissions and regulating electricity supply and demand respectively. However, the two markets have different policies, management and trading systems, their operations are independent of each other, and the market prices have not been connected. In this context, the policy background and development status of China’s carbon market, electricity market, and green power trading are first summarized. Then, the principle and key issues of the coordinated operation of the carbon market and electricity market are analyzed. Finally, the construction of a coordinated operation system between the carbon market and the electricity market is discussed in light of the actual market operation to facilitate their coordinated operation and jointly promote the low-carbon development of the energy sector.
