A systemic approach in working with the family planning waiver newborn
Abstract
The article provides an analysis of many years of work the organization has conducted with families planning to surrender their child. It describes a "social portrait" of a woman applying for child abandonment and the main motives she has for doing so (the reasons stated — more often social, but also deeper personal problems). The term "system approach" is presented from a number of perspectives. Firstly, it is a complex of actions aimed at providing all-round help to the family that found itself in a harsh situation. Secondly, baby abandonment is viewed from the perspective of family system analysis. Through an example of 20 families that have been in work for a number of years, the article describes the main reasons that led the family to the situation where they have to abandon their baby. The organization's specialists worked with every member of the family, and their aim wasn't to persuade the family to keep their baby as much as to restore of the family system overall. For those families the situation of baby abandonment became the starting point that helped them to overcome the crisis through mobilizing family resources and getting help from the outside.
