During the last decade of the XIX Century Manuel Moreno y Anda, a climatologist at the Meteorological Office published a paper on the urban/rural thermal contrasts in Mexico City. Using Moreno´s temperature data, of the seasonal variation of the urban heat island intensity is described in what was then a small city. Trend analysis of the urban station (at the National Palace) for 11 years shows an increasing trend in the minimum temperature that may be attributed to urbanization.
