Proverbs are true argumentative resources present in natural languages. It is not just condensed syntactic structures, but semantic-discursive and pragmatic structures that, in a nutshell, say a lot. They function in the legal text as argumentative resources that can even decide a demand in the absence of a positive norm. Thus, this work, based on the theoretical and methodological assumptions of Ecolinguistics and research in Law, aims to analyze some proverbs in the legal field and are also present in the imagination and lexicon of ordinary citizens. We collect the proverbs from some court decisions and correlate the semantic load of these sayings with daily life. The results obtained will serve as a basis for the analysis of the right that emerged from the life of the people and not just the law.
