“Drama is Life” A Metaphor Analysis Study

The purpose of this study is to identify the perceptions of the associate degree students of child development with the metaphors. The study group of the research consisted of a second class of 97 students taking the “Children and Drama” course. They were asked to fill in the expression “Drama is like ……….. Because ………….” In the analysis of the data, “content analysis” technique was applied. The metaphors written by the students for the drama concept were classified according to their common characteristics. The findings had two main classifications “features of drama” and, “the developmental, educational benefits of the drama”. Frequencies were calculated for subclassifications that are created depending on these classifications. Sub-classifications with the highest frequency in the findings of the study; “the drama is to reflect life”, “have animations”, “to be relaxing”, “to gain knowledge and skills”, “to reveal creativity”.
