Objective To observe the clinical efficacy and safety of microneedling at different depths combined with minoxidil tincture in the treatment of male androgenetic alopecia. Methods From June 2020 to June 2021, 90 male patients with androgenetic alopecia were enrolled in the department of dermatology clinic of the first affiliated hospital of Henan university of science and technology, and they were randomly divided into the group A (n=30), the group B (n=30) or the group C (n=30). Patients in the group A were treated with external application of minoxidil tincture only, patients in the group B were treated with 0.5 mm deep electrodynamic microneedling combined with external application of minoxidil tincture, and patients in the group C were treated with 1 mm deep electrodynamic microneedling combined with external application of minoxidil tincture drug treatment. The clinical efficacy and adverse reactions were observed after 12 weeks treatment. Results After 12 weeks treatment, the hair densities and the hair diameters of patients in all three groups were significantly improved compared with those before treatment (all P<0.05). The hair densities and hair diameters of patients in the group B and C were significantly better than those of patients in the group A (all P<0.05). The self-assessed hair growth of the patients showed that the hair growth improvement scores of patients in the group B and group C were significantly better than that of patients in the group A (all P<0.05). The incidence of adverse reactions for patients in the groups A, B, and C were 6.67%, 6.67% and 26.67%, respectively. The incidence of adverse reactions for patients in the group C was significantly higher than that in patients in other groups (χ2=6.92, P=0.031). Conclusion 0.5 mm deep microneedling combined with external minoxidil tincture in the treatment of male androgenetic alopecia is effective, safe, and is a new treatment option for patients with male androgenetic alopecia.
