Le « tu » inattendu. La métalepse de deuxième personne dans El Paraíso en la otra esquina de Mario Vargas Llosa et La Biblioteca de Babel de Jorge Luis Borges.

Abstract

This article looks at second-person metalepsis in two texts from Spanish-American literature: it proposes the study of some cases where the narrator addresses the character in Mario Vargas Llosa's El Paraíso en la otra esquina and also examines the narrator's apostrophe to the reader in Jorge Luis Borges' La Biblioteca de Babel. These examples of particularly transgressive and often surprising 'ascending metalepsis' and 'descending metalepsis' finally allow for a reflection on the time of the story, of the narrative and of the reader's actualisation of the text.
