Abstract

This overview focuses on the characteristics of the region and its utilisation in regional sciences. The concept of the region is based on concepts in physical geography. This definition has superseded other scientific disciplines dealing with research related to geo-physical space. Regional sciences, including geography, economics, sociology, and political science, are concerned with space and the actors that, to a certain extent, determine the character of the space. For this reason, the conceptualisation of the region is focused on, alongside the definition of regional identity. The concept of regional identity creates a research area that connects topics to interdisciplinary research in the field of social sciences.
